DISCUSSION:
At the November 16, 2004 City Council meeting, Mayor Miller directed staff to research a
bronze t ree r ecognition plaque t o b e p laced i n t he c ommunity room donated by West Covina
Beautiful. West Covina Beautiful accepts nominations from the community and then as a
committee, determines who will be honored. West Covina Beautiful's criteria for the nominee is
for a deceased West Covina resident having a lifetime of service within the community. The
plaque will be used in memory of outstanding community volunteers as designated by West
Covina Beautiful. The 2005 honoree will be in memory of Elba Comeau.
The proposed plaque design is a 42" tall; 21 t/4 base width; 25" wide bronze recognition tree with
80 dedication leaves (Attachment). The recognition tree can be mounted on in asonry o r o n a
hollow wall; all appropriate hardware is included. Each year a new honoree will be chosen by
West Covina Beautiful with the name added to an existing leaf on the recognition tree. The leaf
will be unscrewed and taken to the engraver at a cost of $10.00 and then will be placed back on
the tree. West Covina Beautiful will be responsible for all future costs and installations.
The cost of the Recognition Tree including tax- and shipping is $2,280 to be paid for by West
Covina Beautiful.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Provide staff with another location and design.
2. Not accept the donation.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact to the General Fund. All costs shall be borne by the requesting party.
