The following is a summary of Legislative Advocacy Meetings held January 22-24, 2007 in
Washington D.C. In attendance at the conference were Mayor Michael Touhey, Mayor Pro Tern
Sherri Lane, City Manager Andrew Pasmant, and City staff.
The purpose of these meetings was to solicit support of the City of West Covina's Federal Funding
Priorities that were approved by the City Council at their December 14, 2006 meeting. These
projects included the following: Public Safety Radio System, Heritage Park Learning Center, Street
Improvements to Azusa Avenue, Landscape Improvements along Interstate 10, Green Linkages
Trails, Senior Center Fitness Center, and Orangewood Park renovations.
City Councilmembers and City staff attended meetings with Congresswoman Hilda Solis' Office,
Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's DC Office,
and the Department of Homeland Security.
