SUBJECT: REQUEST FROM MAYOR PRO TEM FRED SYKES REQUESTING THE
CITY COUNCIL TO INSTRUCT CITY STAFF TO PREPARE A REPORT
ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A PUBLIC SAFETY IMPACT FEE ON
NEW DEVELOPMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council direct staff accordingly.
DISCUSSION:
Per the City Council Standing Rules, Mayor Pro Tern. Fred Sykes is seeking the City Council's
consensus to instruct City staff to prepare a report on the implementation of a public safety impact
fee on new housing and commercial developments in the community.
Several cities within California collect a Public Safety Impact Fee from new commercial and
residential developments to help fund the increased demand on police and fire services as a result of
these new developments.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Any fiscal impact will be dependent on direction taken by the City Council.
