Pasmant, City Manager and City Council FROM: Chris Freeland, Deputy City Manager SUBJECT: CANCELLATION OF CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS IN AUGUST 2011 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council cancel the August 2, 2011, and August 16, 2011, City Council meetings due to National Night Out and lack of business. DISCUSSION: The City of West Covina is presenting this item for the City Council’s consideration and to provide advanced notice to the general public. Per Government Code Section 54955, “The legislative body of a local agency may adjourn any regular, adjourned regular, special or adjourned special meeting to a time and placed specified in the adjournment.” Historically, the City Council has cancelled meetings, due to special events (i.e. National Night Out), proximity to holidays & summer vacations, and light agendas. Recently, the City Council cancelled the August 3, 2010 (National Night Out), August 17, 2010, January 4, 2011, and the May 17, 2011, City Council meetings, due to light agendas, proximity to holidays, vacations, or to conflict with other business trips or meetings. City staff is requesting to cancel the August 2, 2011, City Council Meeting for National Night Out and the August 16, 2011, City Council meeting due to lack of business.
