Pasmant, City Manager and City Council FROM: Chris Freeland, Deputy City Manager SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND SENIOR SERVICES COMMISSIONER RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council adopt the following resolution appointing an individual to the Community and Senior Services Commission to serve the remaining three-year term that expires on March 31, 2013. RESOLUTION NO. __________ - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING _______________ TO THE WEST COVINA COMMUNITY AND SENIOR SERVICES COMMISSION    DISCUSSION: This matter was continued from the August 21, 2012, City Council meeting. In March of this year, the City Council consolidated the Community Services Commission and the Senior Citizen Services Commission into the Community and Senior Services Commission. The Community and Senior Services Commission aids and advises the City Council on matters pertaining to the needs of the citizens of West Covina relating to public recreational services, cultural activities and special events, senior services, youth services, and public transportation. Commissioners are also instrumental in assisting the City with the development of the City’s annual Community Development Block Grant and Capital Improvement Project budgets. An appointment to the Community and Senior Services Commission is necessary due to resignation of former commissioner John Hughes. Proper legal notification was given inviting interested residents the opportunity to apply for the position. The appointment to this position will be for the unexpired term ending March 31, 2013. Below is a listing of those individuals that have submitted an application to fill the vacancy on the Community and Senior Services Commission. Steven Bennett Gloria Gallardo Herb Redholtz Margaret Willis In addition, City staff was instructed to contact those former Commissioners that were not appointed to a City Commission during the Commission reorganizations that occurred earlier this year. Below is a listing of those former Commissioners interested in serving on the Community and Senior Services Commission. Marcia Hazelton Jeanne St. Gaudins Arcy Torres OPTIONS: The City Council has the following options available to them: Adopt a resolution appointing an individual to the Community and Senior Services Commission to serve the remaining three-year term that expires on March 31, 2013; or Leave the Community and Senior Services Commission position vacant and re-consider the appointment as part of overall Commission Appointments to be effective in April 2013 when all City Commissioners terms of office expire.
