02-01-2011 - Request from Mayor Steve Herfert Requesting the Ci - Item 11 (2).doc City of West Covina
Memorandum
A G E N D A
ITEM NO. 11
DATE February 1, 2011
TO: Andrew G. Pasmant, City Manager
and City Council
FROM: Chris Freeland, Deputy City Manager
SUBJECT: REQUEST FROM MAYOR STEVE HERFERT REQUESTING THE CITY COUNCIL’S CONSENSUS TO INSTRUCT CITY STAFF TO PREPARE A REPORT ON THE PLACEMENT OF THE CITY’S INITIALS ON A WEST COVINA
HILLSIDE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council direct staff accordingly.
DISCUSSION:
Per the City Council Standing Rules, Mayor Steve Herfert is seeking the City Council’s consensus to instruct City staff to prepare a report on the formation of a volunteer committee
to locate and construct a symbolic WC hillside logo. The committee would not use city funds, but construct and maintain the site by soliciting donations from the community. This
is proposed in conjunction with the City’s 88th birthday celbration.
In communities throughout Southern California, cities have placed their city’s initials on hillsides or mountain ranges visible for miles around the community. Some of the cities locally
include Azusa, Duarte, Monrovia, and Cal Poly Pomona.
FISCAL IMPACT:
To be determined.
