AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTIONS 7-18.13 AND 10-27 OF THE WEST COVINA
MUNICIPAL CODE AS THEY RELATE TO THE REQUIREMENTS FOR INSTALLATION
OF AUTOMATIC FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEMS.
The City Council of the City of West Covina finds as follows:
SECTION 1: Section 7-18.13 of the West Covina Municipal Code is amended to add the
following itemized paragraph:
5. Open parking garages as defined in Section 311.9.2.1 of the Uniform
Building Code are exempt from the automatic fire sprinkler requirements
of the West Covina Municipal Code.
SECTION 2: Section 10-27 of the West Covina Municipal Code is amended to add the
following itemized paragraph:
5. Open parking garages as defined in Section 311.9.2.1 of the Uniform
Building code are exempt from the automatic fire sprinkler requirements
of the West Covina Municipal Code.
SECTION 3: If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this
ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision of any court of
competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this
ordinance. The city council hereby declares that it would have adopted this ordinance and each
section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion thereof, irrespective of the fact that any
one or more sections, subsections, phrases, or portions be declared invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION 4: This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days after the date of adoption.
SECTION 5: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and shall cause
the same to be published as required by law.

regular meeting of the City Council on the 15th day of October, 1996. That, thereafter, said
