ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE WEST COVINA CITY COUNCIL AND A
JOINT MEETING WITH THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
November 30, 1987
The adjourned'regular meeting of the West Covina City Council was called to order
by Mayor Chappell at 4:20 pm in the Management Resource Center at City Hall, 1444
W. Garvey Avenue, West Covina. Mayor Chappell led the Pledge of Allegiance.

QUARTERLY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT REPORT
Past President Lou Starble of the West Covina Chamber of
Commerce introduced the members of the Chamber present for
the meeting.
Presentation Using slides, Chet Yoshizaki of the West Covina Redevelop-
ment Agency.and Fred Burkhardt, Executive Director of the
Chamber, reviewed the accomplishments of the goals and
objectives of the Economic Development Program. Samples
and copies of the various brochures, programs, and .
advertisements were shared with explanations of the
successes and hurdles that were met.
Mr. Burkhardt noted the challenge of working with the
results of the changing demographics in West Covina, not
just the residents, but in ownership and management of
many new businesses in West Covina. He also stressed
the Chamber's commitment to the development of visitor
services: dining and entertainment.
Mr. Yoshizzaki stated that the joint effort has been working
very well with the Chamber concentrating on bringing in
new businesses and developing those already located in
West Covina, and the Redevelopment Agency concentrating
on working with developers and new projects. The tandem
efforts have allowed economic development to be addressed
from all angles.
Comments The Chamber Board of Directors and the City Council
appreciated the joint presentation which illustrated
clearly the work and progress of the two staffs.
Mr. Burkhardt explained the newest upcoming program
designed to develop leadership within the community.
He noted that he had fifteen commitments to the class
and was anticipating at least five more. The class will
be spread over several months incorporating approximately
.nine days of workshop time.and starts on December 14, 1987.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS No one addressed either body.
Councilmember Shearer expressed appreciation for the
flowers.in condolence of his father's passing away.
ADJOURNMENT Motion by Manners, seconded by Shearer, and unanimously
carried to adjourn the meeting at 5:15 pm to 5:30 pm
this same day at Reube s Restaurant.
